Aloha! Welcome to another beautiful Hawaiian day! With summer here, I am bursting with ideas for fun things to do with the kids, projects to complete and love to share- too bad I can't seem to get my butt off the couch. I'm not sure what my problem is. The heat always gets me down, and an over-scheduled summer, or maybe it is my new obsession with Vampire Diaries (I've watched 22 of the 66 episodes in a week). All I know is I haven't accomplished much of anything and summer is half over. Pair this with the fact that BH still doesn't have a position secured for the fall (have I told you how hard it is to worry about a move, that may or may not happen, EVERY spring?) and this is what you get... a beautiful mess.

Here I am with big hair and a refreshing glass of Organic Lemonade. Yum!
Stress, lack of communication and daily life are really taking their toll on our marriage. That, and the fact that we have been out of deodorant for nearly a month. Now don't worry your pretty little head about my stinky pits. I have been using a drop or two of essential oils and I haven't been smelly at all! The only down side is that I am a conservationist at heart, and this 2 drop method is using my supply at an alarming rate. So, in an attempt to save my armpits and my marriage, I decided to make a charmed deodorant!

Buying deodorant has always been a daunting task. I can't stand the weird perfumed smells that transform into the ever so pleasant "wet dog" smell as soon as I sweat; I am scared by the long list of ingredients that may or may not cause cancer; and it really upsets me that they charge me more just because I am a woman. So, when I found the Natural Deodorant Recipe at an essential oil presentation, I was super excited. I have been making our deodorant for the past year with HUGE success. I have tweaked the recipe by substituting arrowroot powder for the corn starch, and by using different essential oil combinations for either the desired smell or the physical and emotional support my body needs. I love that a 4oz jar of the deodorant will cost me $0.50 to make, and I love knowing exactly what I am smearing on my body.
"DNA Repairing Blend works emotionally as well as physically with the cycles of life and death and personal transformation. By putting off the old we become free to experience the new. Through the help and support of this blend individuals can assist their bodies, cells, energy and emotions in returning to a balanced, healthy and authentic state. These oils are particularly supportive in releasing all types of negative family patterns which are recorded in the body itself."
My life experience and essential oil training has taught me to do the best with what I have. Since I didn't have the DNA Repairing Blend, but have several of the oils listed in the ingredients I feel confident I can affect the above referenced changes with a combination all my own. And let's face it, if these oils are working on the cellular and emotional level and BH and I are both using the charmed deodorant, something has got to shift. It's like magic!![]() |
I use doTERRA CPTG essential oils. For this recipe I used 2 drops each of Black Pepper, Cypress, Frankincense, Lemongrass, Myrrh, Thyme, Wild Orange & Ylang Ylang.

She was a great helper! look at her reading the recipe ♥
We started by gathering our ingredients.
Since it stays around 82 degrees here, our coconut oil is almost always liquid. If yours is a solid, melt it with some warm water (or you can use your big strong muscles while you stir).

Careful not to spill!
Add your arrowroot powder and baking soda to the coconut oil.

Don't you want to smooch those lips?
Add 16 drops of essential oils. I used 2 drops of each oil.

She was VERY careful!
Stir... Stir... Stir!

She REALLY wanted to taste the mixture.
Transfer the deodorant into an airtight container.

The mixture isn't quite solid and isn't quite liquid. It will harden up (or melt, depending on your weather) over the next hour or so.
Voila! Your very own handmade deodorant!
Now scoop a pea size drop

The mixture feels a bit oily, but rubs right in!
and lovingly apply to each underarm.
